Getting the size of a rug right can be tricky, but nail it and it can tie the whole room together. My general rule of thumb: LOUNGE: have the rug sit under the sofa/armchairs at least 20cm to halfway. For a large space, have the furniture sit comfortably on top. DINING: you need a minimum of 60cm extending beyond each side of the table.
